Support for Turnaround/Shut-Down Projects
Every organization aspires for, and works diligently towards, an injury-free plant shut-down project. LEHDER can help by providing Industrial Hygiene (IH) guidance and hands-on field support for plant safety, operations and contractor personnel prior to and during turnaround projects.
One of our greatest strengths is the LEHDER team’s ability to interact with, and actively work as, a liaison amongst diverse groups while promoting and supporting a safe work environment.
How Can LEHDER Assist?
LEHDER can offset the additional workload which occurs during turnaround projects for on-site company Industrial/Occupational Hygiene personnel by providing coverage on a 24 hour / 7 days a week basis during the length of the shut-down. If you require an alternate coverage schedule, LEHDER can accommodate any time frame that will suit your sampling requirements and project specifications.
The LEHDER team of skilled professionals includes Project Leaders and Managers, Certified Industrial Hygienist/Registered Occupational Hygienist, Engineering Technologists and Field Technicians.
The types of services provided by LEHDER include noise monitoring, indoor air quality monitoring, chemical air contaminant monitoring and thermal stress evaluations.
Our Field Technicians are trained in the use of a variety of exposure assessment equipment including but not limited to: MultiRAE, AreaRAE, Draegar & Gastec pumps, UltraRAE, TSI Dustrak, noise dosimeters and sound level meters.
Benefits of Using LEHDER's Support Services
Our experience has been that the LEHDER presence on-site promotes safe behaviours, allows for open communication pathways and encourages proactive anticipation of hazards – thereby sending a clear message to workers that their health and well-being is critical to a successful turnaround project.
Each LEHDER team member has years of experience in chemical and petroleum refining and manufacturing industries. More specifically, each LEHDER team member has hands-on experience in turnaround situations which results in a vital mix of skill and understanding of shut-downs that cannot easily be taught; this 'hands-on' occupational knowledge is immeasurable.
LEHDER has provided a Sarnia-Lambton refinery with 24 hour / 7 days a week IH support during 60-90 day turnaround/shut-down projects. In addition, LEHDER has assisted with pre-turnaround/shut-down worker exposure assessments during the cleaning and clearing preparatory phase prior to contractors arriving on-site.
LEHDER has also been called upon by Sarnia-Lambton refineries and chemical plants to provide project specific IH support during shut-down situations. An example of this is a project where LEHDER provided silica exposure assessments on workers during refractory removal within furnaces.
“The LEHDER technicians had a good rapport with workers who realized the technicians had their interest and well being in mind.”
“LEHDER services were always available and staff were very cooperative. Technicians responded immediately without delay. Technicians were approachable and friendly. All in all a very positive experience.”
“I liked that LEHDER came to the Daily Field Meetings to address any concerns or questions and also put a comfort level with the contractors.”
“The LEHDER technicians did a great job. Their field presence was very strong and their willingness to assist was great. Excellent Job!”
“LEHDER did their best to try to get to the bottom of situations they were called for and relay the findings to workers involved as well as EH&S and Operations.”
“This service should be considered a Core requirement for any event of this type.”
The above comments were made following a project where LEHDER provided around the clock on-site Industrial Hygiene support for a turnaround project at a local refinery.
