Continuous Emissions Monitoring
Meeting the Needs of Industry
print this page
Continuous Emission Monitoring involves extracting a sample from a stack and providing real time pollutant concentration data using gas specific Continuous Emission Monitors (CEMs).

The typical gases monitored for CEM programs are:
Oxygen (O2)
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Carbon Monoxide (CO)
Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX)
Sulphur dioxide (SO2)
Total Hydrocarbons (THC)

The sample is extracted from the sample site using a probe, filter and heated line which are connected to a sample distribution system. The analyzers are calibrated before and after sampling as per EPA methodologies using EPA Protocol Calibration Gases accurate to 1%.

CEM programs are performed to evaluate process performance and efficiency over time, and for compliance purposes. Changes in process operation which effect emissions are indicated immediately by the CEM system. Simultaneous manual flow measurements provide flow data which are used to calculate emission rates of contaminants.
